Field Hockey Tops Washington & Jefferson 3-1

Melanie McKaney had four points for the Bombers in their 3-1 win

ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Bombers defeated the visiting Presidents (5-3, 2-1 Empire 8) 3-1 to improve to 4-3 on the season and 3-0 in conference play. The win also moved Ithaca into sole possession of first place in the Empire 8. Senior back Melanie McKaney (Rocky Point/Sound Beach) scored the game winning goal and assisted on two others to lead the Bombers to the win.

McKaney broke a 1-1 tie when she tipped in a pass from senior forward Tina Capposi (Bayport Blue-Point/Bayport) ten minutes into the second half.
 
Senior forward Bryce Meck (Mechanicsburg/Mechanicsburg, Pa.) scored twice for Ithaca, both times converting feeds from McKaney of off penalty corners. Her first goal came with 2:59 remaining in the first half to give the Bombers a 1-0 lead. Her second goal came 5:32 after Ithaca regained the lead off of McKaney’s second goal of the season.
 
Senior goalkeeper Andrea Baraiola (Mark T. Sheehan/Wallingford, Conn.) made four saves, all of which were in the first half, to record her fourth win of the season.
 
The Bombers will return to action Wednesday when they travel to Cortland at 4 p.m.
